Present
Ministry
Our present Minister, Rev. Stephen
Biddall, settled with us in September 2006. We have an active ministry
amongst young people (with a variety of activities for all ages); and a
heart for outreach through various community projects, including a
luncheon club and coffee mornings.
We are active in local ecumenical
partnership, and are seeking to develop closer links with our neighbours
– both Baptist and non-Baptist. Our worship is inclusive of traditional
and contemporary styles, and we are passionate about world mission.
Above all, we seek to be a welcoming,
worshipping and witnessing fellowship, built on the Lordship and love of
Jesus Christ.

The Vision of the Leadership of Margate Baptist Church
Through building on our fringe contacts and strengthening
relationships within, and seeking to reach out to our local community,
we will be enabled to bring families, including the men, into the heart
of our fellowship, being seen to be on fire in our love of God and in
our desire for others to catch the flame.
Mission
Margate is the
classic British ‘seaside resort’, and is in fact in one of the most
deprived areas of the South – but it does offer a fantastic coastline,
lovely countryside, and a strong sense of community.
We believe we have been called to work and witness in the town.
Through building on our fringe contacts and strengthening relationships
with, and reaching out to, our local community, we are being challenged
to bring families, including the men, into the heart of our fellowship.
We have a longstanding commitment to mission – locally, nationally and
in international support. We want to take this further and build it
into our lives – with how we use our resources, how we live, and how we
share. We are called to be seen to be on fire in our love of God and
in our desire for others to catch the flame

A short
history of Margate Baptist Church (Cecil Square)
A Baptist church was started at the
Shallows, between Margate and St. Peters, in 1762. Later an
outreach was made to the town of Margate, meeting in the High Street
then Love Lane.
In 1800 the Shallows divided into two
separate churches. The Margate Church grew rapidly and, in 1815, moved
into a new building in New Street, called Ebenezer Chapel. This is the
sanctuary which we use today.
In 1899 the building was extended into
Cecil Square, and the Church became known as Cecil Square Baptist
Church.
